I had an opportunity to visit the new headquarters of the Goose Creek City Fire Department this past weekend. We have been blessed to have many new firehouses built in the area in the past year and many of them are testaments to planning for the future.

It took nearly an hour to get the full tour of the new HQ and each door revealed amazing planning and forward thinking. From the professional kitchen, the stadium seating in the TV area, the pod sleeping quarters, the decon room, the compressor and air system room, the separate storage garage for their lawn equipment, the fourteen restrooms (yep, that was 14!) the beautiful office spaces, the exercise room and the grand prize of them all, the amazing training room that makes room for them to host some large training events, this was a night to remember. I must tell you that this training room made this old fire instructor’s heart race. I can’t wait to be able to teach in there. But, then again, my heart might have been racing from my jog from way out in the parking lot to the building. I kept looking for the shuttle bus that never came.

Thanks to Captain Todd Pruitt and his crew for their hospitality and congratulations to Chief Steve Chapman and all of his folks as you make history in the Creek.
